Of Operas and Operations: Music and Medicine in the French Baroque
This edition of Nachtklang im Museum at the Novartis Pavillon brings together music, medicine and science. With Martin Zeller (viola da gamba), Katya Polin (violin) and Giorgio Paronuzzi (harpsichord), accompanied by readings from Dr Frank Petersen, the evening opens a window onto the world of the French Baroque.
The programme features works by Marin Marais and François Couperin. Marais’ La Gamme turns an ascending and descending scale into an imaginative musical opera, while Tableau de l’Opération offers a striking musical depiction of the stages of a medical procedure.
Combining music, readings and insights into medical history, the evening explores the close connections between art, science and human experience.
